Chapter 9 - Empowering Futures: AI Ethics, Child Protection and Human Rights in Vulnerable Communities
Synopsis
Artificial intelligence (AI) is minutely changing how we live and interact, but its side-effects on vulnerable communities raise important ethical questions. This study looks at AI ethics, child protection, and human rights, and focuses on how technology can help marginalized groups without harming their dignity or rights simultaneously. The goal is to create a new framework that prioritizes fairness and justice in AI systems. The research points out the major problems caused by AI in areas like child welfare, education, and community development. For instance, biased algorithms can unfairly target disadvantaged families. The AI tools that lack cultural sensitivity risk alienating marginalized groups. These issues bring on surface the urgent need for ethical guidelines that focus on human rights and protect children in a digital world. To handle and overcome these challenges, this study suggests a rights-based AI audit toolkit that emphasizes four important areas- protecting children’s digital rights, adapting algorithms to different cultures, ensuring community accountability, and considering psychological impacts. By including these principles in AI development, the framework aims to reduce harm and increase inclusion. This research calls for a change in how we think about AI ethics and to move beyond technical solutions to address even minute inequalities. It supports working together of human rights experts, policymakers, and technologists to ensure AI systems are designed with fairness and dignity in mind. The study also tries to provide practical policy recommendations, including mandatory child impact assessments for AI developers and global standards against harmful predictive technologies. This means making sure that new technology is designed in a way that respects and protects people's basic rights, like fairness, privacy, and equality, this work aims to create AI systems that empower rather than exploit vulnerable communities. It offers a vision of a fair digital future where technology serves as a positive force that would protect children’s rights and uphold human dignity throughout its development.
