Synopsis

The Judiciary is one of the three pillars of democracy, delivering justice and interpreting the law before it. It has a leading role in the various interpretations of law which the Bar had before it, giving myriad ways for people to seek justice. The integration of AI in the judiciary has been a debatable yet significant topic of discussion, considering that there have already been some AI-driven technologies in the courts in India. This paper does not seek to repeat which AI technology has been brought in, but rather, it places a unique situation where AI replaces the judge. This paper brings out the different results an AI judge would decide in different circumstances, considering the diverse and huge magnitude of people belonging to different classes in Indian society. This paper employs an exploratory study to assess the potential impacts of AI on the Indian legal and judicial fields, using a qualitative method of research. The influence of AI on the judiciary can be seen through various incidents of the integration of law and AI in not only drafting but also in judicial decisions. While the information around the help of AI in judicial technology is settled, this paper uses the same information to analyse the prospects available in case the threat of AI taking over the job of delivering justice is true. The paper presents different situations analyses the performance of an AI judge and brings out a conclusion depending on the circumstances in Indian society and the capability of an AI judge.
